With the news that Penn State defensive line coach Sean Spencer is headed to the NFL to join the New York Giants staff, James Franklin is on the search to fill a vacancy.

According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Texas A&M defensive line coach Elijah Robinson is in the mix to join the Nittany Lions staff. Robinson played at Penn State from 2004-08, where he learned from longtime d-line coach Larry Johnson, who is now at Ohio State.

Robinson has been at Texas A&M since 2018.

Prior to joining the staff in College Station, Robinson was the defensive line coach at Baylor in 2017 and served in the same role at Temple from 2014-16. He was also a graduate assistant at Penn State from 2009-11 and the director of community relations from 2012-13.

Spencer had served on Franklin’s staff for all six seasons in Happy Valley, and was also a member of the head coach’s staff at Vanderbilt from 2011-14.

Penn State finished the 2019 season with an 11-2 record.
