Saquon Barkley cancels media appearance after MNF miscue but includes classy gesture
Saquon Barkley dropped the ball, literally, on Monday Night Football, and he owned it after helping cost the Philadelphia Eagles a victory against the Atlanta Falcons.
Then on Tuesday, the former Penn State star did something else that was admirable in the aftermath of his inexplicable dropped pass.
He was scheduled to appear on “The Dan Patrick Show,” but in light of Monday night’s catastrophic events, Barkley asked Patrick if he could reschedule his appearance. That was very nice of Barkley, but Barkley actually reached out directly to Patrick to apologize for having to cancel at the last minute.
Patrick said that rarely happens among the legions of athletes he’s interviewed over the years.
We were scheduled to have @Saquon Barkley on the show today. After last night's game, he understandably asked to reschedule the appearance. “I’ve been doing this a long time. We just celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Dan Patrick Show,” said the longtime host on Tuesday. “I could probably on one hand tell you the number of times that I’ve heard from an athlete who had to cancel. It’s very, very rare you hear from an athlete.
“Now you might hear from a PR person, you might hear from a sponsor. But Saquon texted the show and said that he was sorry and that he’ll do his best to make it up to us. I mean, that’s a classy move.”
Patrick went on to say that he wasn’t surprised by Barkley’s kind gesture, that he’s always had good interactions with Barkley and that he’s a good guy. Patrick said Barkley didn’t have to do what he did, but that he appreciates it.
