Saquon Barkley on Penn State culture: It’s more than football, it’s more about life

Saquon Barkley has captivated the college football world with his tremendous athleticism and incredible ability on a football field.

But as the season continues, we’re starting to find out that there’s more to Barkley than just highlight reel runs and spectacular catches. There’s a much more personal, selfless and wiser side to the star running back underneath the helmet and shoulder pads.

Earlier last week, Barkley made an appearance on the Herbstreit and Fitzsimmons Podcast to talk about Penn State’s success early in the season and the attention he’s gained this season. On the show, Kirk Herbstreit asked Barkley why Nittany Lion players seem to have the same character year-after-year.

Here’s what the star running back had to say:

“It’s more than football, it’s more about life, it’s more about school,” Barkley said. “How you carry yourself as a person. Be respectful to others, treat others however you would like to be treated — that is the Golden Rule which Coach Franklin says.”

That’s a pretty wise and modest answer for someone as heralded as Barkley.

The kid continues to impress on the field and off of it.
