We’re just three weeks into the college football season, but who doesn’t love a little early Heisman Trophy talk?

ESPN has been running a weekly Heisman poll for fans to vote on the player they believe is the favorite for college football’s most prestigious award. In Week 3, Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is towards the top of the list.

Barkley ranked second out of five candidates in fan voting, trailing only Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Following Barkley is Mason Rudolph (Oklahoma State), Lamar Jackson (Louisville), and Sam Darnold (USC). The Penn State running back is the only non-quarterback mentioned in the voting.

Through three games, Barkley has rushed for 307 yards and three touchdowns on 38 carries. He’s also been a threat as a pass-catcher, hauling in 11 receptions for 241 yards and two scores.

Penn State sits at 3-0 but doesn’t have a marquee win yet. If Barkley has a big performance this Saturday against Iowa on the road, he could catapult in the voting after Week 4.
