Sean Clifford added to Maxwell Award watch list after stellar start to 2021 season
Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford has been turning heads nationally for his role in the team’s undefeated start. Most recently, Clifford was added to the Maxwell Award watch list for his stellar beginning to the 2021 campaign.
The award is given annually to the College Player of the Year:

Clifford has passed for 1,336 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions this season. Clifford totaled 178 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception last week in Penn State’s 24-0 shutout victory vs. Indiana. Clifford threw a season-high 401 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-17 win vs. Villanova on Sept. 25.
Next up for No. 4 Penn State is a major challenge as they travel to face No. 5 Iowa on Oct. 9 (4 p.m. EST/FOX). Iowa is coming off a 51-14 blowout victory vs. Maryland.
Iowa won last season’s meeting but Penn State leads the all-time series 17-13.
