Sean Clifford hits wide open KJ Hamler on beautiful TD strike
Facing the Purdue Boilermakers (1-3) in a B1G crossover game at Beaver Stadium, a pair of redshirt sophomores – quarterback Sean Clifford and wide receiver KJ Hamler – got the No. 12 Penn State Nittany Lions (4-0) on the scoreboard first with a beautiful 23-yard touchdown pass.

A product of St. Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio, Clifford was a four-star prospect in 2017, via the 247Sports Composite. After learning behind the decorated Trace McSorley for two seasons, he is in his first season as the program’s starter. Showing steady progress each week, Clifford threw for 398 yards and three touchdowns in Penn State’s 59-0 victory over Maryland on September 27.
Beginning his high school career at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (Orchard Lake, Michigan), Hamler transferred to the IMG Academy (Brandenton, Florida) prior to his junior year. Redshirting in 2017, he has established himself as one of Penn State’s most dynamic playmakers over the last two seasons. Catching 42 passes and five touchdowns in 2018, Saturday’s first quarter score was already Hamler’s fourth touchdown reception of this season.
Now leading 21-0, Purdue at Penn State is currently airing on ESPN.
