Penn State is keeping one of the top offensive tackles in the 2022 recruiting class close to home.

The Nittany Lions received a boost to their class with a commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Drew Shelton, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound native of Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He becomes the fifth player in the 2022 class to verbally commit to Penn State.

Shelton is also currently the highest-ranked prospect of the cycle to commit to Penn State. He made his announcement with a short-and-sweet post on social media, saying “I’m staying home,” on Twitter.

According to 247Sports, Shelton ranks as the the No. 13 offensive tackle and the No. 4 player out of Pennsylvania in the 2022 class. Overall, he sits at No. 130, earning him the 4-star status.

Shelton has received over 20 offers on the recruiting trail, picking Penn State over other major programs like Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Virginia Tech.

Though it’s another big-time pick-up for the Nittany Lions, they won’t see a change in the recruiting rankings. Penn State still sits No. 3 nationally, behind only LSU and Ohio State.
