It’s going to take quite a bit to keep Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley from seeing the field on Saturday. The senior leader is one of the toughest players in college football, demonstrating that multiple times throughout his career.
Last week, McSorley suffered a leg injury in the first half against Iowa. He was forced to leave the game and trotted off to the locker room before the end of the second quarter. The injury didn’t seem to affect his mobility much, as he ripped off a 51-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter.
So what exactly is McSorley’s status heading into Saturday’s top 25 showdown with Michigan? Head coach James Franklin didn’t provide much insight during his weekly press conference, but the quarterback says he’s taking it day-to-day.
“We’re just going day-by-day, seeing what’s the best fit for me this week,” McSorley told Audrey Snyder of The Athletic. “And what’s going to be the most comfortable, really.”

McSorley has appeared in every game since the 2016 season, playing in 38 straight games. This season, the senior has thrown for 1,628 yards and 12 touchdowns with just four interceptions.
He’s also rushed for 617 yards and nine touchdowns. Penn State is 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in the B1G.
McSorley’s mobility is obviously a huge weapon for the Nittany Lions and causes plenty of problems for defenses. If he’s not at full strength, Penn State will have to find another way to throw new looks at Michigan.
