Trace McSorley weighs in on Penn State's ongoing QB competition
The shoes that Trace McSorley left behind are massive. And with less than two weeks until the first kickoff in the B1G, we still don’t know which Penn State quarterback will attempt to fill them.
Sean Clifford and Will Levis continue to battle it out for the starting job in Happy Valley, with James Franklin not tipping his cap to either guy just yet. He’s in no rush to name a starter, and maybe won’t name one until a few days — perhaps hours — before the Nittany Lions take the field against Idaho.
It’s one of the most talked about position battles in the B1G. With McSorley having such a huge impact on the offense, the individual replacing him will have a high standard to live up to.
Recently, McSorley talked with Josh Moyer of the Centre Daily Times about the ongoing battle in State College.
From Sean, I think I just go back to the approach he’s taken every single day since he arrived on campus. Really businesslike, very competitive, very hungry. And as he’s gone on through this year especially, I think he’s had a little bit of a chip on his shoulder with people saying this and that about him.
Whether it’s right or wrong or different, I think it’s something that’s going to drive them to be better. He wants to lead this team and take them to good places. Honestly, I’d say the same thing about Will Levis. They’re both really good athletes and can throw the ball really well so, whoever ends up being in that spot, I think it’d be pretty good.
Clifford has been considered the favorite to win the job since Tommy Stevens decided to leave Penn State and reunite with Joe Moorhead at Mississippi State. Still, Franklin hasn’t anointed anyone just yet.
