Tyler Warrern capped a record-breaking 2024 season by capturing the Mackey Award, given annually to the best tight end in college football.

Warren was 1 of 3 finalists for the award, and he beat out Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr. and Michigan’s Colston Loveland for the honor on Thursday night. The 6-foot-6, 257-pound senior is the first Penn State player to win the Mackey Award since its inception.

Thursday’s honor was just the latest for the Nittany Lions star. He won the Big Ten’s Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year award and has been named first-team All-America by multiple outlets.

Warren has put together a historic season, setting Big Ten single-season records for a tight end with 88 receptions for 1,062 yards. Warren has 6 receiving touchdowns this season. His 17 career receiving touchdowns is a program record by a tight end.

But numbers alone don’t begin to tell Warren’s story this fall. He’s been one of the most versatile players in the country, lining up at tight end, wide receiver and quarterback, among other places. The former high school quarterback has rushed for 189 yards and 4 scores in 2024.

And he’s an excellent blocker, too.

Warren’s highlight-film moment this season came in Penn State’s dramatic overtime victory at USC during a 17-catch, 224-yard performance. It was in that game when Warren both snapped the ball and caught an acrobatic, 32-yard touchdown on the same play against the Trojans.
