Underrated? College GameDay crew comments on overlooked Penn State defense prior to Iowa game
One of the best games of the day resides in the B1G—a top 5 matchup between No. 4 Penn State and No. 3 Iowa.
The GameDay crew talked about the monster matchup this morning.
“Penn State brings an offense in that’s balanced,” Kirk Herbsreit said. “They can run the ball, they’re now throwing the ball more down field. Sean Clifford is playing with a great deal of confidence. And by the way, I think Penn State’s defense may show up for this game and may show up in a bad mood with all this talk about Iowa’s defense.”
Desmond Howard agreed that Penn State’s defense is being overlooked heading into this matchup with Iowa.
“I want to see how well Penn State’s defense travels,” Howard said. “All week, all they’ve heard is how great Iowa’s defense is. ‘They’re the best in the country, second to only Georgia…’ I think Penn State’s defense is going to come in there with an attitude and test Iowa’s offense.”
Both ESPN analysts talked about Penn State’s defense and how they will play after hearing all week how great the Iowa defense is.
Penn State this season is 5-0 and has wins over Wisconsin, No. 18 Auburn and Indiana. Iowa this season is 5-0 on the year as well and has wins over Indiana, Iowa State and Maryland.
No. 4 Penn State plays No. 3 Iowa at 4:00 ET on FOX.
