Let’s just be honest, none of us wanted Saquon Barkley to declare for the NFL Draft. His fans, his opponents and folks with no rooting interest were all hoping that he’d stick around Penn State just one more year.

Heck, I wrote a whole column about how much I’m going to miss watching Barkley, one of the best running backs I’ve ever seen play the game.

But there’s one little girl who might be more upset than any of us.

On New Year’s Day, just a day after Barkley made his announcement to enter the 2018 NFL Draft, one mother had to tell her 5-year-old daughter that the Penn State running back wouldn’t be wearing the blue and white next fall. By her response, you can tell she’s heartbroken.

When head coach James Franklin saw the video, he reassured the little girl that she wasn’t the only one feeling sad that Barkley chose to leave.

New Year’s Day was a tough one for Penn State fans, even if they knew it was coming. But Barkley had an incredible career in Happy Valley and made some lasting memories during his season.

Even the young fans won’t forget about his contributions.
