Videos of walk-on players receiving a full scholarship will always be awesome. It’s probably one of the coolest things about college football.

Penn State shared one of those moments with the world on Saturday. Over the weekend, after the Nittany Lions held a practice and scrimmage at Beaver Stadium, legendary linebacker and former NFL star Jack Ham returned to Happy Valley to deliver some great news.

Ham surprised walk-on defensive back Drew Hartlaub with a full scholarship. The reaction in the Penn State locker room after the announcement was pretty special. Below is the video:

Hartlaub is a redshirt junior safety at Penn State, joining the program in 2017. He did not play during his first year with the program, but over the last three seasons, he’s appeared in 30 games and has been credited with 11 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries.

All of Hartlaub’s appearances for Penn State have come on special teams.

Even though he’s played in front of the best crowds in college football over the last three years, Saturday’s announcement was probably a highlight of his career at Penn State.
