The last time Penn State was this bad, George W. Bush was President of the United States, Fallin’ by Alicia Keyes was the nation’s top song and Training Day featuring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke was the top movie in theaters.

For a program that came into the season ranked and considered a legitimate contender to make the Big Ten Championship Game, this horrible start to the season is truly shocking. Pressure is increasing on head coach James Franklin as Penn State’s season continues its downward tumble.

Despite a second half comeback, Penn State lost 30-23 at Nebraska on Saturday. With the loss, the Nittany Lions are 0-4 and off to their worst start since 2001.

It was a strong start for Nebraska, who went up 24-3 at one point as Penn State benched quarterback Sean Clifford after a rocky start that included an interception and a fumble lost by the midpoint of the second quarter.

It doesn’t get easier for Penn State, a suddenly resurgent Iowa comes to Happy Valley.

The winless start through four games is providing fodder for Ohio State’s rivals within the Big Ten as well, something that might be used against the program on the recruiting trail.
