Purdue wide receiver David Bell won the 2019 B1G freshman of the year award, which was announced along with all the B1G offensive awards on Wednesday.

Bell beat Nebraska wideout Wan’Dale Robinson, Ohio State running back Master Teague and Purdue defensive lineman George Karlaftis for the award.

Bell led Purdue with 86 catches and 1,035 receiving yards this season. He was also tied for the team lead with Brycen Hopkins with seven receiving touchdowns.

Additionally, Bell rushed for 12 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.

With his receiving totals, Bell was one of just four wideouts in the B1G to reach 1,000 receiving yards. Bell finished third in receiving yards in the conference behind only Minnesota receivers Rashod Bateman and Tyler Johnson.

The next closest freshman receiver in the B1G, Iowa’s Tyrone Tracy Jr., had nearly half as many receiving yards as Bell did in 2019.
