A year ago, Rondale Moore set his sights on being named a Freshman All-American
Mission accomplished.
A year ago, Rondale Moore gave his commitment to head coach Jeff Brohm and Purdue. Bringing in a 4-star recruit was almost unheard of in West Lafayette and Boilermaker fans were ecstatic about the promise the star receiver was bringing to Ross-Ade Stadium.
Yet nobody, not even the most die-hard Purdue fan, could’ve anticipated the type of season Moore would have as a true freshman.
Moore hauled in 103 catches for 1,164 yards and 12 touchdowns, leading the B1G in all three categories. He was a dynamic player in multiple ways and gave Purdue a spark all throughout the season. His breakout year resulted in a bevy of individual honors and accolades.
The freshman was the B1G Receiver of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Moore was named the Paul Hornung Award winner, presented to the most versatile player in college football. And he’s been named a first-team All-American by nearly everyone with a vote.
Who on earth could’ve expected all that?
Well, Moore did, actually.
In an interview following his commitment to Purdue last winter, Moore was asked what goals he had once arriving in West Lafayette. Then a high school senior, Moore gave a very precise and direct answer.
“Freshman All-American,” he said.
The video resurfaced this week once Moore was named a first-team All-American by several media outlets over the last two days. And he was certainly deserving of the honor.
Moore concluded his freshman campaign with 2,048 all-purpose yards and 13 total touchdowns. He was considered to be the most electrifying player in the B1G by many. He’s only a freshman.
After just one year, there’s no doubt that Moore will most definitely be a contender for the Heisman Trophy throughout the rest of his collegiate career at Purdue.
On Feb 7th a reporter asked Aspirations @Rondale_Moore03 what his goal was for his freshman season. Rondale with no hesitation said Freshman All American. Today Rondale was named not just All American but National Freshman of the year #proofinthepudding pic.twitter.com/mDQd9B4wvF
