Auburn running back Asa Martin has decided to leave the program.

On Saturday afternoon, Martin made the announcement via his Twitter account. He was expected to play in just four games this season and utilize his redshirt. Auburn mistakenly burned his redshirt, however, playing the freshman in five games.

“I would like to take the time out to thank Auburn University for giving myself, a young man from Courtland, Alabama the opportunity of a lifetime,” Martin said. “However, I have made the decision to transfer. I appreciate all the love and support.”

Martin appeared in five games for the Tigers this season, taking 13 carries for 57 yards. He also caught two passes for 36 yards.

The announcement comes prior to Auburn’s Music City Bowl matchup against Purdue. The two teams will meet in Nashville on Friday, Dec. 28.

As a recruit, Martin was a 4-star running back and was ranked as a top 10 player at his position in the 2018 class.
