Purdue got some good news on Tuesday afternoon regarding QB depth for the 2022 season. QB Austin Burton is exercising his COVID year to return to the Boilermakers for another season.

Burton is a fifth-year senior and a transfer from UCLA.

Burton has been with the Boilermakers for 2 seasons and appeared in 7 games this season, where he played sparingly for the Boilers. He was 5-0f-7 for a 71.4% completion rate, throwing the ball for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Purdue had the best season it has had during the Jeff Brohm tenure; they went 9-4 and 6-3 in B1G play. The Boilermakers finished tied for 2nd in the B1G West standings with Minnesota and Wisconsin. They capped off the year with a thrilling 48-45 win over Tennessee in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl.

Purdue opens the 2022 season with a home date against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, Sept 3. Purdue fans can feel confident heading into next season with their starting QB Aidan O’Connell coming back and a relatively easier crossover schedule comparatively to  years’ past.

Purdue’s basketball team isn’t too shabby either being the No. 7 ranked team in the country. There is a lot to cheer about in West Lafayette.
