Purdue has continued to ruin top-ranked school’s hopes of having a special season.

On Saturday, it was Michigan State’s turn to lose to the “Spoilermakers.” The Spartans came into this matchup at 8-0 and ranked No. 3 in the country as they controlled their own destiny the rest of the season.

They can likely kiss their College Football Playoff hopes goodbye (unless they beat the Buckeyes next Saturday and win out) as they fell, 40-29. This was Purdue’s 17th win over an AP top-5 team while unranked, which is the most in college football.

Prior to this win against MSU, Purdue upset then No. 2 Iowa in Iowa City on Oct. 16, 24-7. This win gets the Boilermakers to 6-3 and a lot of it had to do with quarterback Aidan O’Connell. He had perhaps his best game of the season as he threw for 536 yards and 3 touchdowns.

O’Connell now has 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in his last 2 games, both of which have been wins for Purdue.

Its next chance to play spoiler will be next Saturday against No. 6 Ohio State in Columbus.
