You can hear it in Ross-Ade Stadium and it usually can be heard through your television set. During every kickoff, Purdue fans chant “IU Sucks” to keep the rivalry with Indiana alive every Saturday.

But this weekend, as the Boilermakers host Ohio State on Saturday night in prime time, there might be a unique change to the chant.

Instead of yelling “IU sucks,” Purdue student may instill a “Cancer Sucks” chant to show support for those battling the disease.

The recommendation also comes to show support for Purdue alum and current cancer-fighter Tyler Trent, who has been an honorary captain for the Boilermaker football team. And it sounds like everyone, including head coach Jeff Brohm, is all for it.

“I’m all for our fans and what they want to do,” Brohm said. “And obviously Tyler Trent’s situation is special to us and we’re hopeful that he’ll continue to fight the fight the way he has the whole time with great courage and energy that others wouldn’t have in that situation. We’re hopeful that he can get to the game.”

With the attention of an ABC audience and the prime time game of the week, Purdue students have an opportunity to pay a very special tribute to Trent and others battling cancer.

Ohio State and Purdue will square off at 7:30 p.m. ET under the lights at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Here’s what a few others have to say about the potential of having a “Cancer Sucks” chant on Saturday:
