David Bell explains picking Purdue as a recruit, why Boilers are successful vs. Top 5 teams
No. 19 Purdue has entered the College Football Playoff rankings for the first time ever and that’s in large part because of star wide receiver David Bell.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior has tallied 64 receptions, 1,003 yards and five touchdowns this season. Bell recently spoke with FOX College Football’s Matt Leinart and expressed that Purdue football is here to stay:

The Indianapolis native explained what swayed him to stay in the state and play at Purdue.
“The Number 1 reason why I chose to come to Purdue was my grandmother. Many know that she’s handicapped and, since I was little, she’s been able to come to just about every football game,” Bell said. “I just wanted her to have that opportunity to watch me play in college and experience the college game day on Saturdays.”
Bell also added that the offensive strategy and his envisioned role was a key selling point.
“Everyone knows Coach Brohm is a brilliant offensive mind and I knew that he would put me in the right position to be successful,” Bell said.
Purdue has already knocked off then-No. 2 Iowa and then-No. 3 Michigan State. There’s another upset chance this week when Purdue travels to face No. 4 Ohio State this weekend.
Bell describes what’s enabled the Boilermakers to be spoiler-makers this season.
“I just think for the entire team, we know that the world is against us and we just have to believe in ourselves and we don’t want to let our brothers down,” Bell said. “So, each time we go out there on Saturday afternoon and are playing a ranked opponent — or even if their not ranked — give 100% effort because we don’t want to let each other down.”
Purdue-Ohio State is slated for a 3:30 p.m. (EST) kickoff and will be televised on ABC.
