David Blough is set to begin his coaching career in 2024.

Blough was announced as a member of the Washington Commanders’ coaching staff on Thursday. Blough spent the last 5 seasons playing in the NFL, mostly as a backup quarterback. He was a member of the Detroit Lions organization in 2023.

Blough will serve as the Commanders’ assistant quarterbacks coach this upcoming season.

Washington hired former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn to lead their franchise earlier this offseason. Blough will be working under offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard.

Blough played in 9 NFL games during his pro playing career. He completed 57% of his passes for 1,435 yards, 6 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He averaged 5.9 yards per attempt. His best season came as a rookie in 2019 when he started 5 games for the Lions. He threw for 985 yards and 4 touchdowns during that campaign.

Blough went undrafted in 2019 after a solid career at Purdue. After initially signing with the Browns’ practice squad, Blough made his way onto the Lions’ active roster later that year. He also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings during his career.
