Deion Burks produced Purdue’s first score of the season, and it was an amazing one, to say the least.

In the first quarter against Fresno State, Burks beat his man off the line on a 3rd-and-2 play. The short slant was a quick connection for a first down from quarterback Hudson Card, but that is when Burks really went to work.

After a short gain, Burks broke tackles from 4 Fresno State defenders. At one point, Burks was turned around and facing his own end zone.

However, he stayed on his feet and outran another potential tackler before hitting the jets. After that, it was smooth sailing as Burks rolled 84 yards for Purdue’s first score of the season and the Ryan Walters era in West Lafayette.

So far, scoring has not been an issue for the Boilermakers in Walters’ head coaching debut. Purdue is already up to 28 points scored in the game with the third quarter still winding down.

Card has been efficient so far in his Boilermaker debut with a pair of touchdowns. Meanwhile, the defense has struggled to get off the field with Fresno State able to keep things close.

Hopefully, Purdue is able to buckle down and create some separation in the final quarter.
