Drew Brees is heading back to West Lafayette.

The former Boilermaker and star NFL quarterback has been hired as an interim assistant coach for Purdue and will coach in the bowl game against LSU. He will also assist in transition and help in recruiting, according to SI’s Ross Dellenger.

Purdue has already seen 3 key offensive players opt out and recently lost head coach Jeff Brohm to the vacant Louisville job. His brother, Brian Brohm, will serve as interim head coach and is expected to join Jeff in Louisville following the bowl game.

Brees, despite being a top 10 quarterback in NFL history, has no prior coaching experience. Still, this is an awesome move by the former Boilermaker.

“I see it not only as an opportunity to coach and mentor this group of young men, but represent all the former Purdue players that care so much about our program,” Brees said Thursday.
