Everything Jeff Brohm said at his press conference following Week 10
Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm met with the media on Monday, coming off the Boilermakers’ 40-29 upset win over No. 3 Michigan State.
Led by quarterback Aidan O’Connell—who was named the Big Ten’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the performance—Purdue built a 21-7 first-half lead and a 37-21 fourth-quarter lead to beat the Spartans at home. The Boilermakers never trailed in the game.
For the fifth-year head coach, it was his third win as an unranked side over an AP Top 5 opponent and Purdue’s second in four weeks. The Boilermakers knocked off No. 2 Iowa 24-7 in Iowa City last month.
It was also the 17th time in program history Purdue has beaten a top-5 opponent as an unranked team, an FBS record.
Brohm touched on Purdue’s “Spoilermakers” tendency, provided an injury update, and offered some more general comments on his side. He also previewed Purdue’s game against No. 5 Ohio State on the road this upcoming Saturday. The two kick off against each other at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Here is some of what Brohm had to say:
Jeff Brohm on why Purdue has had success vs. highly-ranked teams: "I can't put my finger on it, but I think we have an aggressive style. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't."
Says Purdue is a much more complete team in all 3 phases. Having "solid units across the board."

Jeff Brohm: "I enjoy this team. They work hard. …They compete hard, we learn from our mistakes. We worked hard in the offseason to get better."

Brohm says Purdue works on that trick play about once per week. Says he doesn't want to "over-coach it."
Not sure what HS it came from. Says his son is better on the phone than he is.

Brohm: Trick play Jackson Anthrop scored on vs. MSU is called "Money One."

Brohm: Payne Durham will be healthier than he was last week. Won't be 100 percent this week; hope to use his more this week.

Brohm: Garrett Miller played banged up last week.

Brohm: This was our most complete week of special teams vs. Michigan State.

Brohm on Ohio State: They have a lot of playmakers on offense and on defense. They've got a lot of talent, well-coached.
Sometimes, when you play those kind of teams, they could run it every play if they wanted to.

Brohm says Purdue is going to do some "risky" things in the game to catch Ohio State out of its comfort zone.
Sounds like things may get tricky in Columbus.
