Former Purdue DL Lorenzo Neal lands with new NFL team
Former Purdue DL Lorenzo Neal is headed to the Mile High City as the Denver Broncos picked up Neal after releasing S Tedric Thompson on Sunday.
Neal had an impressive 4-year career with the Boilermakers as he recorded 72 tackles, 13 TFLs, 4 sacks, 5 pass deflections, 4 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. He was also All-B1G Honorable Mention in 2018 and 2020.
The Boilermakers are going to have a tough time replacing Neal along the defensive line. The Boilermakers allowed over 1,000 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns last season as they stumbled to a 2-4 record.
Neal is a 6-foot-3 325 lbs. defensive tackle who went undrafted in 2021 and was picked up by the New Orleans Saints initially. The Broncos needed to add depth to their defensive line after a couple of injuries from Deyon Sizer and rookie Marquis Spencer.
The Broncos are coming off a 5-11 season in 2020 where they finished 25th in the league on defense. Neal will be joining fellow B1G alumni Dre’Mont Jones along the DL in Denver. Jones played for Ohio State from 2015-2018. Jones was a third-round draft pick in the 2019 NFL Draft
Jones has played in 27 games for the Broncos where he’s recorded 34 tackles and 10 sacks through 2 seasons.
