Purdue is about to see two of its former starting quarterbacks take the field for SEC powers.

In Saturday’s game against North Texas, Florida starting quarterback Luke Del Rio took a nasty hit that will appear to keep him out of next week’s contest against Tennessee. Appleby, a graduate transfer, is the next man up for the Gators.

In a story from Saturday Down South, Andrew Olson captured this quote from Florida’s newest quarterback:

“I’ve come to the University of Florida to play,” Appleby said after the game. “That’s ultimately why I chose to come here. I want to be a part of something special. I don’t think you ever want to be someone’s caddy. You want to be the guy that’s got the ball in his hands.

“I’m excited about my opportunity. It breaks my heart that it had to come by an injury. I’m really hoping he’ll be back with us and healthy as soon as possible. I’m ready to roll, we have a job to do.”

Another former Boilermaker, Danny Etling, took over the starting job at LSU last week for Brandon Harris after struggles in the Tigers’ first two games against Wisconsin and Jacksonville State.

Both quarterbacks transferred from Purdue after being benched for poor performance. Etling transferred prior to the 2015 season and Appleby joined Florida earlier this year.

Appleby has thrown for 2,807 yards and has 19 touchdown passes and 19 interceptions in his career.
