One Power Five program is among those interested in Tarik Murphy, the former Purdue running back who entered the transfer portal on Sunday night.

According to 247Sports Brian Dohn, Cal joins programs such as UMass, Buffalo, Western Kentucky and Lafayette in reaching out to Murphy, a physical and bruising player. The running back did not play last season at Purdue, his first year with the program.

A former four-star running back, Murphy was arrested and allegedly reported to be in possession of 30 grams of marijuana just hours before Purdue’s season opener..

In high school, Murphy was a tremendous talent and considered on the top running backs in the nation and among the best high school players in all of New York state. 247Sports had him as the No. 272 player in the nation.

He had offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Boston College, Indiana, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Notre Dame and Rutgers at the time of his commitment to Purdue.

Last season, Purdue was bottom of the Big Ten in rushing, averaging 81.5 yards per game on the ground.
