Former Purdue RB King Doerue did not have the best of luck when it came to injuries in 2022. Doerue entered the transfer portal in January and landed on a new team on Saturday.

Doerue began the season as the starting RB in West Lafayette, but suffered an injury early on. As a result, Doerue played just four games for Purdue in 2022. Devin Mockobee shined in Doerue’s absence, leading the Purdue backfield with 968 yards rushing.

A video posted by Kale Steed of PressPassSports confirmed that Doerue will be playing for Cal in 2023.

Doerue has proved that he can contribute as a receiver out of the backfield as well as a runner. In 2021 Doerue recorded 689 scrimmage yards and 2 touchdowns.

Doerue was a member of the 2019 class and a former 3-star RB per the 247Sports Composite. He had offers from Purdue, Minnesota, and Nebraska as a recruit.

Purdue came out on top in the B1G West and made it to the conference championship in 2022. The Boilermakers lost to Michigan, then faced LSU in the Citrus Bowl.

A new man will be coaching Purdue in the fall. Jeff Brohm will be coaching at his alma mater next season. Brohm accepted the HC opening at Louisville. Purdue will be led by former Illinois DC Ryan Walters in 2023.
