Jaden Ivey opens up on rookie season with Detroit: 'I want to be a Piston for life'
Jaden Ivey met the media on Monday as the Detroit Pistons started training camp along with the rest of the NBA.
Ivey was picked 5th overall by the Pistons, who are in search of their 1st playoff appearance since the 2018-2019 season. Being selected by Detroit was a dream come true for the former Purdue star, who has very strong connections to the region despite being born and raised in Indiana. And, if he has it his way, he’ll only play for the Pistons during his career.
“Just growing up, I always loved Detroit, so I want to be a Piston for life, for sure,” he said in a press conference. “It runs deep, and just every single day, I wake up [and] just try to rep the city well and just put that pride on my back.”
The Pistons open their preseason schedule against the New York Knicks on Oct. 4. Their regular season opener is on Oct. 19 vs. the Orlando Magic.
