Purdue quarterback David Blough suffered a “fairly severe” leg injury against Illinois on Saturday, according to head coach Jeff Brohm.

Blough went down in the fourth quarter after taking shots from two Illinois defenders and was unable to get off the field on his own power. It appeared that he might’ve suffered an upper body or head injury, but the Purdue gunslinger actually sustained a leg injury.

He was then carted off the field and taken out of the stadium via ambulance.

After the game, Brohm addressed Blough’s injury, saying it was “fairly severe.”

The injury means that Elijah Sindelar will be the starter for the Boilermakers under center moving forward. Brohm had already used both quarterbacks throughout the season but was hoping to turn to a one-man system.

Blough was completing passes at a 65 percent clip this season and had thrown for 1,103 yards and nine touchdowns this season. He completed 16-of-24 passes for 194 yards before the injury against the Illini.

Purdue defeated Illinois 29-10.
