Jared Sparks has opted-out of the season, the Purdue wide receiver sparingly used by the Boilermakers but his loss affecting the team’s depth at wide receiver.

The announcement was made on Monday that Sparks will not play the remainder of the 2020 season. The senior wide receiver has four catches for 38 yards but showed much promise early in his collegiate career.

Sparks burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2017 with 19 catches for 222 yards and then followed it up a year later with 28 catches for 274 yards. But he has fallen down the depth chart in recent years and the decision to opt-out could see him return in 2021 to battle for a starting spot with Purdue or potentially transfer out.

For his career he has 59 catches for 642 yards with a touchdown.

Purdue lost this past Saturday 37-30 at home to Rutgers. They host Nebraska this weekend.
