With less than two weeks until the first kickoff of the season, Purdue is working on shoring up its weaknesses and building on its strengths. It got a chance to see where there’s still room for improvement on Saturday during a team scrimmage.

There’s still quite a bit to clean up, according to Jeff Brohm.

Following Saturday’s scrimmage, Brohm spoke to the media about what he liked and what he didn’t like. As has been the case all through camp, the defense accounted for most of the positives while the offense continues to sputter along.

“The defense has a chance to do some good things,” Brohm said. “We had a few penalties that cost us, gave up a few big plays that we can’t have happen, and I think we need to play faster.”

Purdue’s defense was an area of concern last year, particularly in the secondary. But with a good chunk of returning talent back on the field, the Boilermakers’ defense could be its stronger unit.

On the other side of the ball, things weren’t so hot.

“On offense, a little slow at first, but we made a few big plays as we got going,” Brohm said. “We’ve got to play much faster. We had too many sacks, some things like that that we need to get cleaned up.”

Purdue will open the season on Aug. 30 against Nevada in Reno. Below are the full comments from Brohm, as posted on Twitter by Purdue Football:
