For the fans, Purdue’s win over Ohio State a few weeks ago is probably going to be the highlight of the 2018 season. But for Jeff Brohm, his proudest moment may have come on Saturday.
The Boilermakers used a late field goal from Spencer Evans to secure a 38-36 win over Iowa, staying in contention in the B1G West. Purdue improved to 4-2 in conference play this season and is a game behind Northwestern in the division race.
In order to stay in contention, the Boilers had to beat Iowa in Ross-Ade Stadium. After last week’s woeful performance against Michigan State, getting a win over the Hawkeyes seemed like a stretch.
But Purdue responded and nabbed its fifth win of the season. Brohm said he’s prouder of the win over Iowa than the victory over the Buckeyes a few weekends ago.
“I know we had a big win a couple weeks ago,” Brohm said, according to Mike DeFabo of CNHI. “But I’m probably prouder of this moment right here for this football team. We knew going into this game this was a huge game for us. In order for us to still be a contender, we had to find a way to win this game.”

Heading into the final three weeks of the season, Purdue still has a shot at the West crown. The Boilers would have to win out and hope for two more conference losses for Northwestern. That’s the downside of not owning the head-to-head matchup.
Purdue will play Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana in the next three weeks, all of which are winnable games. If they take care of business, the Boilermakers will give themselves a chance.
That’s more than anyone would’ve expected at this point in the season, especially considering the 0-3 start to the year.
