Jeff Brohm provides update on Purdue's search for defensive coordinator
There’s no rush to make a hire at defensive coordinator for Jeff Brohm. The head coach is more worried about bringing in the right guy than pulling a quick trigger.
At the end of the 2019 season, Brohm decided to not retain former defensive coordinator Nick Holt after sloppy efforts on that side of the football in back-to-back seasons. The Boilermakers were hindered by injuries and inexperience both years, but the lack of improvement seemed to be enough to prompt Brohm to move on.
According to Gold and Black Illustrated’s Tom Dienhart, Brohm said he’s still considering his options and wants to make sure he brings the right guy to West Lafayette.
“We are in the process of looking at that right now,” Brohm said. “We will continue to be through with that. I don’t want to rush into any quick decisions. I want to make sure we identify all the things we need to and research it and make sure we make a very educated decision.”
Holt had been Brohm’s defensive coordinator for three seasons at Western Kentucky and three seasons at Purdue. Now, the head coach is forced to make one of the most important hires of his coaching career.
There’s not one particular area that Brohm is looking to fix, saying he wants the guy who can “best help the defense.”
It will be interesting to see the candidates who emerge and who is working with Brohm on the defensive side of the football when the 2020 season rolls around.
