Jeff Brohm responds to Scott Frost saying Nebraska's matchup with Purdue is a 'winnable game'
If you love a little off-the-field banter with your college football, then you might want to keep an eye on Jeff Brohm and Scott Frost this week. It’s only Monday and the two coaches have already taken a few jabs at the other.
Next Saturday’s matchup between Purdue and Nebraska isn’t exactly a blockbuster event, as the two teams are a combined 1-6 on the season. But a few remarks from both head coaches already have people talking.
Shortly after the Huskers’ 56-10 loss to Michigan, Frost talked about his team’s return home to Lincoln as a chance to “reset.” He also labeled Saturday’s game against Purdue as a winnable matchup.
“We’ve got a chance to reset next week,” Frost said. “This was a really good team and we get a game that we could win next week.”
The second part of that quote was saved for Monday, as one reporter at Jeff Brohm’s weekly news conference asked the Purdue head coach for his thoughts on the statement.
Brohm tried to play it off, but it sounds like he took it personally.
“I think that obviously he was talking after a loss that he didn’t like very much. So I get it,” Brohm said. “I think everything that’s said is heard, and our team needs to respond and understand that we’ve got to show up ready to play and this team will be licking their chops trying to get us.”
Maybe someone can hold onto that quote and ask Frost about it later this week. Why not let the war of words extend through the entire game week?
To be fair, Frost also said at his pre-game press conference that he believes Brohm is one of the best and smartest football coaches in the college game. Both guys are attempting to turn around programs that have struggled for quite some time.
Frost just made a statement in the heat of the moment after an embarrassing loss. Still, Brohm appears to have some bulletin board material for his team.
