After turning Purdue’s season around after an 0-3 start, head coach Jeff Brohm continues to be a rising coach in college football.

Brohm has been tied to coaching rumors in the past. He was even among those rumored to be a serious candidate for Tennessee’s head coaching vacancy last year before the Vols hired Jeremy Pruitt.

While Brohm stayed with the Boilermakers, there is a new coaching vacancy that has led to more rumors involving Brohm. Louisville announced the firing of head coach Bobby Petrino Sunday afternoon in a season that has seen the Cardinals fall to 2-8.

Petrino’s firing is significant because Brohm played quarterback for the Cardinals from 1989-1993. He also served as an assistant coach at Louisville from 2003-08.

With the logical connections to Louisville, there is already some chatter that the Cardinals may target Brohm for the opening. Paul Finebaum addressed that chatter during a radio appearance on WJOX 94.5, but he does not necessarily believe Brohm is interested in a return. According to Finebaum, Brohm could do better than heading back to his alma mater:

“Everyone is talking about luring Jeff Brohm,” said Finebaum. “I’m not sure why Jeff Brohm would want to go back there. I know he went to school there but still, he can do better than that.”

The Boilermakers are coming off a disappointing loss to Minnesota. However, the team is averaging 31.1 points a game under Brohm this season and upset Ohio State earlier in the year.
