Purdue’s secondary is getting some immediate help. On Friday, the Boilermakers received a commitment from former UConn defensive back Tyler Coyle, who will join the program for the 2020 season.

Coyle made his announcement public on Friday. He decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer following the 2019 season and has settled on Purdue as his destination. As a grad transfer he will be immediately eligible for Jeff Brohm’s squad during the 2020 season and has one year of eligibility remaining.

“After speaking with my family I am blessed and grateful to say that I am 100% committed to Purdue University,” Coyle wrote on Twitter.

Coyle utilized his freshman year as a redshirt season while at Connecticut, but flourished in the following seasons. In 2017, he totaled 67 tackles, broke up five passes and intercepted two passes, with one being a pick six. Each of the next two years, Coyle led the Huskies in tackles, collecting 109 in 2018 and 86 last season.

In three years at UConn, Coyle tallied 262 tackles, broke up 15 passes and hauled in three interceptions with two pick-sixes.
