Purdue has received its second verbal commitment in the 2023 recruiting class.

On Friday, the Boilermakers received a pledge from safety Winston Berglund, a native of Carmel, Ind. He’s the second player to commit to Jeff Brohm’s squad, along with Louisiana quarterback Rickie Collins.

Berglund made his announcement public with a post on Twitter. He picked the Boilers over offers from 18 other programs, including Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Northwestern out of the B1G.

Berglund is ranked as the No. 10 prospect out of the state of Indiana. Among safeties, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect is ranked No. 63 for the 2023 cycle, per 247Sports.

The 2021 season was a big one for Berglund at the high school level. At Carmel, he was credited with 91 tackles, 6 pass break-ups, 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries.

Below are some of Berglund’s high school highlights:

Purdue is coming off its best season of the Brohm era in 2021, finishing with a 9-4 record. The Boilermakers defeated No. 2 Iowa and No. 3 Michigan State and closed the season with wins over rival Indiana and Tennessee in the Music City Bowl.
