Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm made some significant changes to his defensive staff in the offseason, following a second-straight losing season in West Lafayette. On Wednesday, he revealed the structure for that staff.

Reported by Tom Dienhart of Gold & Black Illustrated, four members of the defensive staff will have a coordinator title in some capacity. Here is the breakdown:

  • Brad Lambert: Co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach
  • Ron English: Co-defensive coordinator/secondary
  • Mark Hagen: Co-defensive coordinator/defensive line
  • Marty Biagi: Special teams coordinator/linebackers coach
  • James Adams: Cornerbacks coach

Lambert was hired away from Marshall following the 2020 season, as the Thundering Herd fielded one of the best defensive teams statistically in college football. Hagen, who was previously on staff at Purdue in the 2000s, came back to West Lafayette after spending last fall at Texas.

English was brought in after spending the last three years coaching safeties at Florida and Adams was added to the staff from Navy.

Purdue’s defense has struggled over the last three seasons. Brohm has let go defensive coordinators Nick Holt (2019) and Bob Diaco (2020) after the Boilermakers’ finished near the bottom of the B1G in total defense and scoring defense.

Lambert will be in charge of calling the defensive plays during the game.
