Purdue might be one of the most unlikely B1G West champions in recent history. Just a few short weeks ago, it looked like the Boilermakers would be left out of the divisional race

On Nov. 5, Purdue was shut down by Iowa at home in a lackluster 24-3 loss to the Hawkeyes. That was a second straight loss for the Boilermakers and dropped the team to 5-4 overall, 3-3 in B1G play.

However, Jeff Brohm and his crew never wavered. Purdue responded down the stretch with a road upset of Illinois and a home win over Northwestern last week. Then, with Iowa’s Black Friday loss to Nebraska, the door to Indy opened once again.

Purdue capitalized with a win over Indiana Saturday, setting up a B1G Championship Game matchup with Michigan. The Boilermakers were also awarded their B1G West trophy after the game.

Jeff Brohm is in his 6th season at Purdue and now has his first division title in the B1G. He also has a shot at back-to-back 9-win seasons with a win over Michigan or in Purdue’s eventual bowl game.
