Purdue coach Jeff Brohm shouts out honorary captain Tyler Trent after win against Nebraska
Purdue (2-3, 1-1 Big Ten) handled business on the road and beat Nebraska (0-4, 0-2) by a final of 42-28 to increase its winning streak to two. However, the important win wasn’t the first thing head coach Jeff Brohm wanted to talk about at the post-game press conference Saturday evening.
Instead, he wanted to acknowledge Tyler Trent, a Purdue student and honorary captain who has had an extraordinarily difficult two years battling a rare form of cancer called osteosarcoma.
Brohm's opening statement after the win over Nebraska:
"I do want to give a shout out to Tyler Trent, a Boilermaker for life and is experiencing some hard times now. He’s a huge fan of ours, this university and we’re hoping for all the best for him and we’re praying for him" https://t.co/AezwIZqUAI— mike carmin (@mike_carmin) September 30, 2018
Tyler posted a heartbreaking update about his fight against the bone disease on Twitter during the game:
update: I'm sad to say I will not be making it back to #Purdue. 💔 My health has taken a turn for the worse and the level of care I now need is too great. While I may not know how many days I have left, I'm trusting the one who does! #onlythestrong #boilerforlife #godsgotthis

Tyler led the Boilermakers onto the field prior to the season opener against Northwestern as an honorary captain. In June, he was honored at the National Football Foundation’s honors dinner in West Lafayette, where he received the Patrick Mackey Courage Award.
Our thoughts are with Tyler and his family.
