Darrell Hazell isn’t going anywhere, but his assistants are.

Purdue announced on Sunday that it fired offensive coordinator John Shoop and defensive coordinator Greg Hudson. The Boilermakers also parted ways with defensive tackles coach Ruben Carter.

All three assistants had been with Hazell since he was hired in 2013.

“I appreciate the efforts of each of those guys over the last three years,” Hazell said in a statement. “They are quality men who are well respected by their players and their peers, and I am disappointed that things didn’t work out better. But I believe that in order to turn around this program, we need to make some significant changes and move in a different direction at those positions.”

Purdue was 111th in total defense and 94th in total offense this season.

The moves came on the heels of Purdue’s third straight bowl-less season under Hazell’s leadership. In his three years in West Lafayette, the Boilermakers are just 6-30 overall and 2-22 in the B1G.

Hazell will likely be in a make-or-break season in his fourth season with the team.
