Having confidence is an essential quality to being a great college player. And it’s not something Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis lacks, apparently.

Karlaftis had an outstanding freshman season with the Boilermakers in 2019, collecting 17 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, forcing a fumble and hauling in an interception. He quickly became one of the top young players in the conference, but believes he’s the best player at his position in the B1G.

According to Black and Gold Illustrated’s Tom Dienhart, Karlaftis was asked whether he thinks he’s one of the best defensive ends in the B1G heading into the 2020 season. Karlaftis responded by saying that he is the best.

Karlaftis will undoubtedly be one of the top defensive linemen in the conference in 2020, but the B1G is still a conference loaded with talent up front. He’ll have competition for that first-team All-B1G spot this year.

Purdue is hoping to bounce back after a 4-8 season last fall. Jeff Brohm is entering his fourth season as head coach.
