Purdue earns huge win over No. 2 Alabama
Purdue defeated Alabama 87-78 on Friday night in a top-25 clash that could have NCAA Tournament seeding implications at the end of the season.
It was a huge win for the Boilermakers on a number of fronts as they look to prove they can thrive even without former National Player of the Year Zach Edey now in the NBA. Purdue got the job done even without Daniel Jacobsen, who was slated to be the starter center this year before suffering a season-ending injury earlier this week.
Trey Kaufman-Renn led the way for Purdue. He scored 26 points on 12-of-23 shooting while also contributing 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer poured in 17 points apiece as well.

The Crimson Tide were ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll this week, making this one of the best wins anyone in the country has earned so far in the early going.
Purdue is now 4-0 on the season, although this was its first win of the year over a high-major program. The Boilermakers do have a couple more tough tests in nonconference play remaining. They’ll face Marquette out of the big east and NC State out of the ACC later this month. Texas A&M and Auburn are also on the schedule for December.
Purdue will be in action again on Tuesday against Marquette on the road.
