Purdue will soon be adding another 7-footer to the basketball roster.

The Boilermakers signed 7-foot-2 center William Berg on Wednesday, officially making him part of the 2022 recruiting class. He held offers from four other programs, picking Purdue over Illinois, Iona, UC-Riverside and Utah State.

Berg joins a Purdue recruiting class that ranks sixth in the B1G and No. 26 nationally. The Boilermakers have one 4-star commit in the class — 6-foot-3 shooting guard Fletcher Loyer.

Berg is a native of Sweden and does not have any rankings per 247Sports. He’ll add even more size to Purdue’s roster, which still has 7-foot-4 center Zach Edey.

Head coach Matt Painter has made it a priority to recruit quality big men, making Purdue one of the tougher teams in the B1G on a yearly basis. Previous players to flourish for the Boilermakers include AJ Hammons, Isaac Haas, Matt Haarms, Trevion Williams and others.

Purdue finished the 2021-22 season with a 29-8 record and a 14-6 mark in the B1G. The Boilermakers also reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and were ranked in the Top 10 of the Associated Press Poll for entire season.
