The B1G’s expansion to the East has really paid off for Purdue with the 2020 recruiting class.

First, four-star running back Tirek Murphy out of Middle Village, New York gave his verbal pledge to the Boilermakers. On Wednesday, four-star pro-style quarterback Michael Alaimo, a Montvale, New Jersey native, announced his commitment to Purdue.

Alaimo became the sixth player in the 2020 class to commit to Purdue. He’s currently the only quarterback to join this cycle.

“I would like to thank all of the schools that have given me the opportunity to play for them,” Alaimo wrote on Twitter. “With that being said, I am proud and excited to announce that I will be furthering my academic and football career at Purdue University.”

Per 247Sports’ rankings, Alaimo is one of the top 300 overall prospects in the 2020 class and is ranked as the No. 13 pro-style quarterback. He’s also listed as the seventh-best player out of New Jersey.

Jeff Brohm’s pass-heavy offense is appealing to plenty of talented quarterbacks. Last year, Purdue had the B1G’s second-best passing attack, averaging 307.5 yards per game.

With Alaimo’s commitment, Purdue’s recruiting class currently ranks 66th in the nation and 11th in the B1G. The addition of Murphy and Alaimo have been huge boosts for the program on the recruiting front, though.
