Purdue lands pledge from former Kent State OL via transfer
Purdue’s offensive line is getting a boost in experience and depth thanks to the transfer portal.
The Boilermakers received a verbal pledge from former Kent State offensive lineman Daniel Johnson this week. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman spent the past four seasons playing for the Golden Flashes before entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
Johnson redshirted in 2018, his first season at Kent State. Because of the COVID-19 waiver from the NCAA in 2020, he will have two years to utilize in West Lafayette. He made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

According to his player profile on Kent State’s athletics website, Johnson played in 3 games for the Golden Flashes and made 2 starts along the offensive line. He appeared in a total of 13 contests over his career.
Johnson saw the most playing time in 2020, when he appeared in 7 games. He started 4 times for Kent State that year and the team was 4-0 in those games.
Purdue is looking to add more talent and depth up front along the offensive line. While the Boilermakers had an explosive passing attack that led to a 9-4 record in 2021, they still struggled to run the football.
Adding a player like Johnson could help Purdue churn out some games on the ground in the B1G.
