There was a scary incident at Purdue’s practice on Monday as linebacker Semisi Fakasiieiki was carted off the field after a drill.

It was first reported by Tom Dienhart, who covers the Boilermakers for GoldandBlack.com.

After this report came out, Mike Carmin of The Journal & Courier released a video on Instagram with a report of his own and said that “They called for the cart pretty quickly after the trainers tended to him on the field.”

Fakasiieiki didn’t have the best stats last year (only 6 total tackles, 4 of them solo) but he was looking forward to a repeat of his 2019 season for this year. During that season, Fakasiieiki had 38 total tackles (23 solo) with 1 sack.

Since he was carted off the field, there’s been no update on his status so we’ll have to see what head coach Jeff Brohm says after practice.

Purdue is scheduled to open up the season at home on Sept. 4 against Oregon State. The Boilers were 2-4 in 2020.
