Zander Horvath would’ve preferred that Purdue walk away with a win over Northwestern on Saturday, but his performance was impressive, nonetheless. So impressive, in fact, that he accomplished a feat that no other Boilermaker back has done since the 1997 season.
Horvath finished the day with 9 catches for 100 yards to lead the team in that department. He became the first Purdue running back with 100 receiving yards or more in 23 seasons. According to Purdue, he’s the first RB to hit that mark since Edwin Watson in 1997.

Through three games this season, Horvath has proven to be a valuable weapon offense for the Boilers. He’s totaled 252 yards on the ground and 155 receiving yards and has one touchdown on the year. Purdue is 2-1.
Horvath has already exceeded his previous career high for season receiving yards, totaling 142 in 2019. He’s already approaching his highest rushing total, as well. Last year, Horvath racked up 377 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Purdue is back in action this weekend, taking on Minnesota on Friday. The Golden Gophers are 1-3.
